June Meeting: Saturday, June 12th

Welcome in the summer months with a friendly get-together at Julia Appell's home.  We will meet at 9:30 am and spend the day with Rachel Atkinson as she teaches the first of two one-day classes that she has specifically designed for us at our request.  In reviewing proposals for the NER Seminar in 2005, we fell in love with a stumpwork piece that Rachel offers.  She is willing to teach us parts of this piece (the tortoise) in one installment in June and will return at our October 9th meeting to teach the rabbit and some flowers.  Some lettering will also be included.  Look in the May newsletter for more specifics, but hold those dates now.  You can stitch these pieces separately, doing both or only one if you cannot attend both classes.  They will be worked on 18-count canvas with wool and cotton threads and will be no larger than 5" x 5".

To keep our stomachs happy, we ask each of you to bring a salad or dessert for the potluck luncheon on the June meeting day.  On the coupon (May newsletter) when you register, please specify what you will bring.  If the weather cooperates, we plan to enjoy ourselves outside.

Stitching Getaways:  Our new area groups are continuing to meet each month.  On Tuesday, March 16th the West Side Day group will be meeting from 10 am to 1:30 pm at Suzanne Newton's house in West Simsbury.  Bring along your lunch and a project you are working on and/or any project you would like to share.  Please email or phone Suzanne at sfnjsn@sbcglobal.net or 860-658-2037 if you plan to attend.  It is the intention of this group to meet once a month on the second Tuesday, so if you cannot attend in March, contact Suzanne and come on April 13th.

The East Side Day group will meet at Susan Jones' house in Manchester on Wednesday, March 17th.  They will begin at 1:30 pm and work through the afternoon.  Please bring a project you will work on and any other information you wish to share.  Contact Susan at Sjones7@aol.com or 860-643-8119 if you plan to come.  This group will meet again on April 21st.

On March 23rd, the West Side Night group will meet at Julia Appell's house in Farmington from 6:30 pm to 9 pm.  For those coming from work, bring your supper or a sandwich.  Also, bring along a stitching project or something you would like help with or are willing to share.  Please contact Julia at juliaappell@comcast.net or 860-677-9125 if you plan to attend.  The April meeting of this group will be on April 27th.

Pequot Colony Group is an existing area group that meets from 9:30 am to 11:30 am on the third Thursday of every month (March 18th and April 15th) at the New London Library.  They work in different media, most of them stitching on workshop pieces that they have started.  The set meeting day provides a time when old friends know they can meet for a morning of work and visiting.  They welcome anyone who would like to join them.  The library is easy to find, and Doris Boas (ndboas@worldnet.att.net) will be happy to send instructions to the building.

A special thank you to all CRVC members who sent pieces to the NER exhibit in Louisville. We may receive a tape or CD of the show so that we can view them as they are hung in the gallery at National.

PLUM BLOSSOMS                                                            Teacher: Margaret Kinsey

June 2004 to February 2005

Rozashi is an ancient Japanese needlepoint, worked on a fine silk canvas (ro).  All stitches are upright.  The threads are silk, metallic, and a mixture of silk and metal.  The design and colors are traditional.  Because Rozashi supplies are scarce in this country and because the job of pasting the ro to the frame is tedious, Margaret will offer the complete kit needed for this course.  The kit includes silk threads, design on ro mounted in the frame, needle and finishing paste.  A photo is on page 34 of your Education Supplement.

Skill level:  Beginner and beyond

Fee:  $45 includes book, registration and mailings.  Supply kit is $55.
