"Treasure" - Workshop with Lynn Payette

'Treasure', a pendant or pin, teaches the student unique techniques for working with different threads, sheer and metallic fabrics, nettings, handmade paper, and beads, as well as a fool-proof finishing method.

Student makes decisions for stitch and color placement to create their own pendant/pin.

Couching with Japanese gold, metallic threads, and flosses, techniques for the application of sheers and opaque fabrics backed with Wonder Under (an iron-on fusible web), working with handmade paper in a stitched piece, as well as a variety of beading techniques, will be demonstrated.

The student will finish 'Treasure' so that it can be used as either a pendant or pin.

Note:  Student will furnish their own neck chain, if desired.

Kit fee:  $60

Please join us for a fun-filled 2-day bead embroidery workshop with Mary Alice Sinton!!

EGA has been the beneficiary of a sizable bequest from the estate of Gay Phillips, a deceased member.  Each Region has received a grant from these monies.  NER is using these funds to pay all the teaching, travel, and classroom rent costs for this two-day workshop.  The student’s only expenses are the kit and lunch fee.

Paisley On Parade by Mary Alice Sinton

We have chosen Paisley On Parade, a lovely beaded box top, for the class project.  The Paisley On Parade satin oval jewelry box is done in the Japanese bead embroidery method and is an advanced beginner level piece.  Bead Embroidery in the Japanese method incorporates silk embroidery techniques translated with beads rather than silk threads.  Paisley On Parade will add pizazz to any vanity and serve as a home for a variety of treasures.  During this entry-level course, the student will embroider Paisley On Parade in a two-day workshop.  The beads used are a wide variety of glass seed beads. The foundation fabric is a floral 100% cotton fabric called Chocolat by Moda.

Complete registration information, including fees and deadlines will be available soon.

An additional message from Pat Timpanaro and NER.......

NER EGA was contacted by Meg Michalski, the event manager at Stone Cow Brewery in Barre, MA.  The Brewery offers a variety of educational workshops and classes that involve working with one's hands at their 1830 brew barn.  Meg would like to offer a beginning embroidery class and contacted NER to help find a teacher.

I asked Meg if she could be more specific about what she wanted to offer and she said, "Something on a hoop, that people could hang on their wall would be nice but perhaps just a simple sampler of basic stitches may be a good way to introduce people."

I also asked her about class length, size, and student age.  Typical classes are between 1 to 4 hours, although multiple days are possible.  She was planning the class to be for adults, with possibly older (16+) teens as well.  They can accommodate up to 20 students and will work with the teacher to determine the class and kit costs.

If you're interested in working with Stone Cow, please contact Meg Michalski directly at meg@stonecow.com
