 "Region Day"
 Saturday, September 20, 2003
The Sheraton Framingham Hotel (Exit 12 on the Mass. Tpke.)
 Framingham, Massachusetts
 10 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Please join us for an exciting day of learning with Pat Houghton.

Pat is a wonderful lecturer and an inspiring teacher, so don't miss out on
this rare opportunity to be exposed to her knowledge of design, color and
texture in needlework. There will be no stitching in this class. Pat's focus
will be to teach us to see the inspiration around us in terms of color and
patterns that can be converted to stitches. We will be learning to create
an artistic balance, develop a dynamic composition and not just to look but
	    to see.

This program uses a 6-inch stylized landscape as a starting point. The
centerpiece is a building flanked by two sampler-style trees. There is a
geometric patterned ground similar to English sampler landscapes. Each student
will design his or her own box top from architectural details that can be
combined in all sorts of buildings, from materials drawn from old samplers
and from at least fifteen different trees from old samplers. The ground will
be designed by each stitcher. This process is so much fun when you are helped
along by Pat that you will go home with tons of ideas for your own needlework.

A notebook may be ordered by attendees. This is a 63-page instruction book
in a binder that is full of instructions for houses, old trees, lots of
architectural elements, such as windows and clapboards, to create your own
buildings, instructions to create your own ground patterns, instructions
and patterns for mounting on a box and instructions for making a 2-color
twisted cord. The price of the notebook, which is separate from the class,
	    is $20.

Museum-quality handmade Shaker style wooden boxes are also available. They
can be ordered stained or in 4 painted colors. Because they take from 6 to
8 weeks to make, orders may be made ahead of this class by calling Lisa Green
	    at (860)658-6082.

The cost for this program is $27, which includes lunch. Please register by
filling out the form below. Participants should bring scissors, pad and pencil
and an open mind. The deadline for registration is September 15, 2003.
