Class with Deborah Tirico
Come join us to see how fast, fun and forgiving felted wool appliqué
is. Deborah was educated as a graphic designer. She turned to
quilting when the graphic design profession became digital. She is
an avid member of the EGA, the Appliqué Society and the American Quilting
Society. Deborah has taught classes in felted wool appliqué at EGA
chapters, quilt guilds and shops. She teaches appliqué, hand
quilting and her own designs in felted wool appliqué.
At this class we will be taught Deborah’s technique of felted wool
appliqué. This includes the following skills:
Felting wool Discussion on
felting and recycling wool will encourage students to make their own wool
for appliqué and other creative applications through recycling clothing or
felting yardage.
Pattern making Freezer paper methods in pattern
making will illustrate effective methods. Students will learn
simplified techniques using available household products.
Stitches Students will learn appliqué techniques
using the tack stitch. A unique method for using the needle on a
slant provides for a sculpting of the wool to create a dimension to the
work. A new method for the blanket stitch will also be
illustrated.
We will meet at Duncaster for this day, and the times
for the day will be 10am to 3 pm. When registering, please choose
one of the following kits:

"The Cardinal’s Rose" with Marsha Papay Gomola
2-day workshop for beginner or intermediate – Stumpwork
We are very happy to have Marsha come to our chapter for a
wonderful weekend of stitching. Her designs are beautiful, her attention to
detail is amazing, and she is just plain nice to be with. Take advantage of this
opportunity to learn from her.

branch above the beautiful Christmas rose and a variety of holiday
greenery. Adding sparkle to the design are Swarovski crystals, fresh water
pearls and 14 Kt. Gold beads. The class time will concentrate on
completing the cardinal and the rose. Emphasis will be placed on the use
of wire, the silk shading in the leaves and petals, Marsha’s method for creating
the realistic markings on the cardinal, and the various methods used for
covering padding. The stitches used in the design include backstitch,
blanket stitch, bullion, couching, long and short, pistil, satin, stem, whipped
stem, and raised stem. The ground fabric is duchess satin, and color is
champagne.

News of Important Embroidery Exhibit
Embroiderer's Guild of America Chapter Member:
I am writing to extend a cordial invitation to you and your community to our
upcoming exhibition, English Embroidery from The Metropolitan Museum
of Art, 1580-1700: 'Twixt Art and Nature.
This special and
exciting exhibition highlights The Metropolitan Museum's superb collection of
Tudor embroideries, many of which have not been on public view since the
1960s. Organized thematically to convey the distinctive relevance of
embroidered textiles in the everyday life and culture of Tudor England, the show
will also reveal the complex technical skill and iconography of the
embroideries.
Our exhibition-related education program department has
organized a wonderful series of public programs and lectures that might interest
your EGA chapter members. We also offer guided and self-guided
tours for a nominal fee. If you would be interested in finding out more
about our exhibition, please contact me at your earliest convenience.
